The KitKat Kaper!

The Easter Bunny may have to substitute certain candies for the beloved KitKat bar during this season. According to reports from the Nestlé home office in Vevey, Switzerland, there has been a mysterious and perplexing heist in recent days that may disappoint many kids expecting to see copious bars of their chocolate-covered wafer in their Easter baskets come Sunday morning!

Newsweek reported that a whopping 26,455 pounds of KitKat deliciousness was stolen. That was a staggering 12 tons in weight equal to two grown elephants! Wowzers! That’s some serious chocolate! How does a thief fence that much stolen product? Ha! Are there that many hungry kids with that much cash? You can imagine how the late-night talk show hosts are capitalizing on this unfortunate event during their monologues!

Our grands are past the days of suspenseful in-house searches for their Easter baskets and for surprise-filled eggs during the afternoon hunts outside! However, they still want to be rewarded with some packages of their favorite sugary delights during the special day! Mimi does not disappoint and has already planned some sweet treats (sans KitKat bars!) for the local grandkids this weekend.

We do know that the significance of Easter goes way beyond the bunny and candy! We prefer to call this special day, Resurrection Sunday! It is the day that the disciples showed up at an empty tomb and heard the angels declare, “He is not here; He has risen! Remember how he told you, while He was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ Then they remembered His words.” (Luke 24:6-8. NIV).

Years later, there would be doubters who would concoct all kinds of false speculations in their efforts to try and explain away the resurrection of Jesus. Some would say that the disciples stole the dead body of Jesus so they could say that He was risen from the dead. That would prove to be a lame argument! If His body were stolen, how could Jesus in numerous post-resurrection appearances show Himself personally to the disciples and so many others as the Gospels testify?

My personal go-to passage of proof is from Paul’s letter to the Corinthians where he writes about what he received through direct revelation from Christ, “And He appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time… Then He appeared to James, and then to all the apostles, and last of all He appeared to me also.” (1 Corinthians 15:5-8).

To the naysayers, I say, “Yes, Jesus is Risen and Alive! This is not debatable!” For those doubters in need of a serious Christian apologetic response, I recommend one resource that gives sufficient evidence to the contrary! Josh and Sean McDowell, in their book, Evidence Demands a Verdict, set forth a readable and comprehensive review arguing for the reliability of Scripture, the deity of Christ, and the absolute truth of Christianity. This is one of the best defenses for the resurrection of Jesus that I can recommend. (You can buy it new or used from your favorite bookstore).

Let’s come together Easter Sunday and exclaim for all to hear this truth about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, “He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!”
